Judy Kass
New York based singer-songwriter, Judy Kass, quickly draws in her audience with soulful vocals, no-nonsense lyrical storytelling and genre-bending exploration of guitar and piano. Her original music blends generous amounts of folk, jazz and blues with songs that cover the full gamut of mood and experience.
Judy’s single, Look at Us Marching Now, caught the attention of Christine Lavin, who created a music video of the song highlighting images from The Women’s March in three cities
A finalist in a number of song contests; Philadelphia Songwriters Project, Rhode Island Songwriting Association’s 2017, and South Florida Folk Festival’s 2018 Singer Songwriter competitions, Judy was also named a Top 5 Winner in the Singer/Songwriter category of the 19th Great American Song Contest, and a First Place Winner in the contest’s 2019 Singer/Songwriter category. Her song, No More Crying, co-written with Glen Roethel and Amy Soucy, with whom she also performs as a member of the trio, Us!, was named a Gold award winner in the Open Category of the 36th Mid – Atlantic Song Contest.
Judy’s latest album release, New Skin (2025), co-produced with Mark Dann and Pat Wictor is an eclectic mix of songs that range from reflecting on life’s’ detours and navigating through change, to observations on the state of our fragmented world. A celebration of fruitful collaboration, New Skin features a number of co-writes with renowned award-winning artists including Sloan Wainwright and Glen Roethel. Her tune Soothsayer features her Grammy nominated trumpeter daughter, Kyla Moscovich.
As in her first two albums, Judy’s talents as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer and arranger in New Skin shine in lyrical narratives, exquisite melodies and rich harmonies that showcase her transporting voice and command of her instruments.
New Skin made an impressive debut charting #4 on Folk Alliance International’s list of top albums for July, 2025.
“Judy Kass has a knack for tapping into both the introspective and the playful aspects of songwriting! Her voice shimmers and dances with each turn of phrase. Beyond the Ash and Steel is a devastatingly beautiful song! And there’s even more in her new CD of the same name!” — Joltin Joe Pszonek, Radio Nowhere WMSC, Upper Montclair, NJ
