Michele Gedney performs online, Thursday, October 5, 2023 7-8 PM ET for our Inside the Song Series – a concert/interview hybrid.    I am thrilled to be presenting Michele Gedney for our Thursday, October 5th edition of “Inside the Song”. You will be captivated by Michele’s soothing, tranquil voice, and transported by her songwriting.  Michele is also a faculty songwriter at Dar Williams’ Songwriting Retreats.  She is an illuminating and well-versed teacher.  I hope you will join us.

Inside the song is a peek into the artist and songwriter’s mind during the act of creation. It’s an opportunity for fans/music lovers and songwriters to glean a deeper understanding of the back stories, the judgements, the skill set, and the guidelines that influenced the artists we admire in making the songs we love.  Tina Ross, host of the series, and a singer-songwriter herself, will guide us all through an hour of music. You will get to ask your questions in the comment section during the show.

Inside the Song is the second Thursday of every month. Attendance is free. Free-will donations are requested and go entirely and directly to the performer.

Michele Gedney has been writing songs since she was 7 years old. In 1999, armed with a lifetime of songs, she ventured out to explore performing and, with a life-changing connection, met her musical partner and husband, Rick. Under the name Open Book, the duo released several albums which received critical acclaim and national airplay. They toured for 23 years up and down the east coast. The most recent album, Leaning In, is being released in September of 2023, eight months after Rick passed away.

In 2013, Michele (and Rick) joined Dar Williams as founding members and teachers at her “Writing a Song That Matters” retreats which just completed its 11th year. Michele’s songs released with Open Book have received awards including the winner of the 2017 Connecticut Folk Festival Songwriting Competition. Michele’s song Go has been released by Cry Cry Cry (Dar Williams, Lucy Kaplansky, Richard Shindell) on their 2020 album, Live at the Freight.

Michele has shared the stage and recorded with many notable musicians including Buddy and Julie Miller, Dar Williams, Ellis Paul, Freedy Johston, John Sebastian, Livingston Taylor, Martin Sexton, and Sloan Wainwright.
